Adult Religious Education
- Hearts Afire (Luke 22:34) Adult Bible Study will resume
October 2/3, 2007 on Tuesday evenings (7:00-8:30 PM) and
Wednesday mornings (10 to 11:30 AM) with
Jeff Cavin's 24-week study of The "Gospel of St. Matthew: The King and His
Kingdom". This study will go through May, 2008.
- Preparation for initiation of adults into the Church
(RCIA) begins every September and runs until Pentecost.
Teen Religious Education
- Known as Sr. CYM for Senior Catholic Youth Ministry. This is for all teens
who attend public high school. The Sr. CYM meet on Wednesdays, September
through May, from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. for religious education. Social and service events are planned
throughout the year. Registration is open year-round.
Jr. High Religious Education
- Jr. CYM for Junior Catholic Youth Ministry, is for students who attend the
public junior highs (grades 7 through 8). They meet for religious education
on Tuesdays or Thursdays, 7:00-8:30 P.M. Sacremental preparation for Confirmation
consists of the 7th and 8th grade years with Confirmation i the fall of the
9th grade. Their calendar provides opportunities for service as well as socializing
with peers.
Registration
is
open year-round.
Children's Religious Education
- for children in grades first through sixth grades. These children meet once
a week, September through May, at one of the following times: Tuesdays, 4:15-5:15
PM or 5:45-6:45 PM; Wednesdays, 4:15-5:15 PM or 5:45-6:45 PM; Thursdays,
4:15-5:15 PM or 5:45-6:45 PM. Registration is open year-round. Materials
for homeschooling Kindergarten-aged children will be available this fall
through the Religious Education Office. Classes begin the week of September
11, 2007 and end for the summer on May 22, 2008.
Children's and Teen's Initiation
- for children and teens who have not received the sacraments
of Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist and Penance at the usual
age of reception, there is a special discernment process
available that is a part of the Christian Initiation of Adults.
This process of preparation, known as R.C.I.C (Rite of Christian
Initiation of Children) facilitates full initiation into
the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil and is designed for
children and teens with no previous formal instruction in
the Catholic faith. Parent involvement is a vital part of
this preparation. This "Special Sacrements" class meets 7:15
- 8:15 PM Tuesdays starting September 18, 2007.
Adult Initiation
- for adults who are seeking to know more about the Catholic
Church as well as adults wishing to convert to Catholicism,
this process of discernment, instructions, prayer, and mentoring
will assist them in this endeavor. This is a nine-month-long
process, known as R.C.I.A. (Rite of Christian
Initiation of Adults) culminates with the sacraments of initiation celebrated
at the Easter Vigil.
Cancellation of Sessions due to Snow or Inclement Weather - In the event classes need to be cancelled because of snow
or inclement weather for our Elementary, Jr. CYM and Sr.
CYM, check our website home page, the above news websites
and radio stations or call 703-777-3891 for a recorded message.
If Loudoun County schools have canceled school because of
the weather, St. John Religious Ed sessions are automatically
canceled.
